Part 1. When do you need to replace the digitizer on your iPhone?
Many persons own an iPhone 3GS, 4, 5 or even the latest iPhone 6 and just like any other mobile device there can be technical issues that must be carefully addressed once they occur if you wish to continue using your device. With an IPhone there can be a wide range of problems, but one of the most common issue that can cause headaches is when your iPhone digitizer malfunctions. The digitizer is the glass panel that actually covers the LCD of the IPhone screen, it converts digital signal to analogue signals in order for the phone to communicate with your input. Once the digitizer is bad or not working, this will of course cause the need for you to go into your pocket and spend some cash if you would like to have a smooth working IPhone once again. When your digitizer malfunctions or isn't working you will probably need to replace it in most cases but there are other situations where you might just be in a bit of luck and can resort to take other measures as it relates to fixing or replacing your IPhone digitizer.
Situations where you might need to replace the digitizer
- • You get no response from your screen when you try to touch it
- • Certain parts of the screen respond while other parts do not
- • The screen is very hard to touch when you try to navigate
You get no response from your screen when you try to touch it
Many times you might try to touch your IPhone screen and only to realize that you are getting no response at all; even when the screen is clearly visible and the phone is powered on. You will now find that you are in a bit of problem with you device. After trying a reboot or factory reset of the IPhone, and you realize that you are still not getting any response at all from the screen when you try to touch it, can prove very much that it is now time for you to replace the digitizer of your IPhone device to get it back to working order.
Certain parts of the screen respond while other parts do not
Another reason why you might need to replace your IPhone's digitizer is if a portion of your screen responds and another portion does not respond. If you are experiencing this you might just need to replace the entire digitizer because once one part of the screen is damaged there is a high possibility that the rest of the digitizer will stop working at some point. So the earlier you replace it, the better it is for you.
The screen is very hard to touch when you try to navigate
Have you ever touched your IPhone device and to your surprise it is does not respond? But on a harder presses you get a response and then you continually have to press it very hard in order to navigate around the device? This can be very frustrating and irritating to you and your fingers, and you might then want to toss your IPhone through your window. Don't panic though as this is a common problem with many mobile devices when the digitizer needs to be changed. Once you replace the digitizer you will then have a working IPhone once again.
Part 2. How to replace your iPhone's digitizer
Now that you know when you might need to replace your IPhone's digitizer, it's time to take a look at the steps that you will need to follow carefully in order to get the digitizer replaced. You can purchase a digitizer online or at an IPhone technician or mobile shop close to you once you realize it needs to be replaced. You can choose to replace your digitizer by doing it yourself with a tool kit that came with the digitizer you purchased. Before replacing your IPhone's digitizer, ensure that you know exactly what you are doing because there is a high possibility that you might be damaging your IPhone.
Things you will need:
- •iPhone digitizer (for your IPhone – 3GS, 4, 5, 6)
- •Suction cup
- •Standard Phillips screwdriver
- •Spudger tool
- •Razor blade
Step1:
Turn off your IPhone and then remove the screws located on the sides with the Philips screw driver.
Step 2:
The next thing you need to do is to remove the damaged screen by using the suction cup to carefully take it off. Place the suction cup on the screen and slowing use your opposite hand and try to remove the damaged screen cautiously. The reason you are doing this is to get to the digitizer, but you first have to make it loose. You can also use the razor blade tool to assist in taking off the screen and help get the digitizer loose.
Step 3:
After completing step 2, you will now realize that there are a lot of wires present in the IPhone and the wires are attached to the motherboard of the IPhone and needs to be carefully detached from the board. Use the spudger tool to carefully do this. It is important to remember the wires you have disconnected correctly. Once the board is detached you can now proceed to step 4.
Step 4:
In this step you will carefully remove the LCD from the old digitizer and IPhone body. Now you will place it in the new digitizer and ensure that all the wires are connected properly. Once done you can proceed to step 5.
Step 5:
Now that you have successfully replaced your IPhone's digitizer it is time to fit your phone back together. Using the Philips screw driver carefully screw back the device together while making sure that the device is connected properly and it feels stable altogether.
These are the steps you can take if you have somehow damaged your IPhone's digitizer. Please ensure that you know exactly what you are doing before you start replacing your IPhone's digitizer.
